In preparation for moving the cockatiels to Utah, I started putting Audrey and Conner in the same cage at night. I was very concerned about them getting along because Conner is much bigger and stronger than Audrey and can be too aggressive. Amazingly enough, letting them sleep in the same cage made them more friendly.
.
When we got to Utah, I put the cages together. The cockatiels love it!
The cockatiels are also much happier in their new space. They love having twice the surface space on top and the room is much darker than our place in California. I think they’re also calmer because there are no birds flying by the windows.
In the past Audrey has acted possessively towards Conner’s cage and has displayed particular interest in Conner’s box. Since we put the cages together, though, Audrey has been very respectful.
At night Audrey sleeps on top of his giraffe while Conner sleeps next to the orange juice boxes.
It’s so lucky that the circumstances caused the birds to become better friends.

Great post, great news! I love your two cockatiels and am so glad they’re happier in their new digs and with each other. My two “boys” also are right next to each other. They’d really be bereft now if they were not. And yet, each needs his own space. Funny little guys!
Pretty cool set up for them. Hey, do you have a toy Connor and Audrey on the shelf – very cute!
Shannon, it’s so amazing how things changed! I never would have expected them to get along so quickly. Like your guys, they do need separate space at times, though. Audrey in particular will become exasperated with Conner and demand to be on my shoulder – ALONE!
Tiffany, I had customized cockatiel toys made. They look so much like Audrey and Conner. I did a post about it here: http://www.avianexplorer.com/2009/11/etsy/
I’ve always loved where they like to sleep — those attachments to orange juice containers and Listerine. So . . . so cockatiel!
They are very obsessed. Conner loves to bang on the OJ container like he’s playing drums in a band.
