Lazuli Bunting

So I’m sitting outside experimenting with settings on my camera by taking pictures of sparrows

when a blue head appeared behind the feeder

That is a Lazuli Bunting.  Here’s the male:

Here’s the female:

It’s hard to make out in this picture, but females have a blue rump.  Everyone talks about Indigo Buntings, but this is my first experience with a Lazuli Bunting.

I’ve been filling the feeder with thistle seed in the hope that it would attract goldfinches.  I haven’t seen any yet but I’m even more excited to see the buntings and I’ve now seem my first grosbeak!

    When I first saw one, I could only make out the blue head and I thought I was seeing things.
