Stained Glass

I love Western and Clark Grebes.  They are always present in Utah and they have wild red eyes.

I also love Farmington Bay, especially in the summer when everything is green.

So imagine my delight when Jon suggested that we get customized stain glass windows of birds.  We chose grebes because they’re always at Farmington Bay and because it translates nicely to stained glass.  They’re black and white with red eyes so there aren’t a lot of small patches of color.  Here is the right pane:

The right pane has two babies.  The idea being that the birds are moving from left to right in the two panes.  The top of the mountain on the left also has some white at the top to represent snow.

I’m very enamored with the cattails.  I spent hours poring over pictures of cattails, studying the texture and the color.  Look at the pictures again.  While most of the glass is smooth, those cattails have bumps and they change appearance throughout the day as the light becomes brighter and then darker.

The pictures are so amazing!  My favorite time is in the morning when the room is dark and the light fills up the panes.

Plus the green looks really good with our fireplace.  The fireplace with two windows is a standard of bungalow houses.  As a result, the stained glass creates a nice personalized look.
