You have to love a town that appreciates birds.  You can find statues of birds while walking around.

There are gull statues at the subway stops.  I’m guessing this ties into the California gull being the state bird, on account of the gulls rescuing the Mormons from a plague of grasshoppers.  Or maybe they just like gulls.  Someone in our neighborhood has a duck weathervane.

The Red Butte Gardens has a bird status:

One of the Mormon buildings had an eagle statue.

and the street leading up to the state capital has a GIANT eagle hovering over the street.  This 4,000 pound eagle statue original served as the service entrance to Brigham Young’s property.

I’ll try to get a picture of the whole statue so you can see how it spans the road.  It’s quite impressive.
