Gray Catbird

It took me the longest time to see my first Grey Catbird.  I’ve heard them, but not seen them.  As the name suggests, these birds meow like cats.  Last summer Jon got pictures of them while I was somewhere else and I completely missed the bird!  But finally on July 9th, I saw him!  He was singing so loudly, he was hard to miss.

Of course Jon’s picture was better.

But at least I was able to get a decent shot of his underparts, which are a rusty color.

Catbirds are only in Utah for summer breeding and they’re only in a small part of Utah, so I’m pretty lucky to have seen one.

    Nice! I love catbirds.
Especially the rusty color under the tail. We only get them in the winter here in S Florida.

I have a particular fondness for the colors you see under the tail. They always seem to scream “Look here!”
