Western Kingbirds

I’ve seen a lot of Western Kingbirds around Salt Lake City and Farmington this year.

I even found a kingbird nest.  I wasn’t able to get a picture of the bird on the nest, but I didn’t stay long because he was agitated and I don’t mess with nesting birds.

I kept going back to the nest, but I never caught them at the right times.  By the time I saw them, they had already fledged.

how do these wings work?

Here is a parent catching food for the babies.

Fall migration has begun, which means that a lot of the seasonal birds are leaving but the kingbirds are still here!  I took a ton of pictures of this gorgeous guy.

If you zoom in you can see his little whiskers.

The younger birds have lighter breasts.  They’ve been known to nest in more urban areas so I’ll be on the lookout next Spring.
