Back when I was renting the 400mm lens, I got some great shows of the Snowy Egret at Farmington Bay.
I usually see them at the same spot on the left side of the road close to the entrance. I guess there are good pickings there. Like many of these summer pictures, you can see the shadow of swallows in the upper right corner.
I’ve been looking through some of my old pictures and I really miss seeing Great Egrets around with their long necks. Here’s the Snowy Egret vs. a Great Egret picture that I took in California a few months ago.
I got a great shot of the back of the Snowy Egret’s head when he was lurking in the cattails.
There was a place in Palo Alto where I saw dozens of them nesting in the trees once. I should really go back there.

Those Snowy Egrets are such great birds. I love all their feathery details.
It is such fun to come across a rookery unexpectedly. We came across a Great Egret, Comorant rookery while driving across Minnesota. It was such a surprise we had to stop.
Fun! It’s a good thing there isn’t much to look at in Utah or I would drive my husband crazy insisting that we stop.
