House Wren

In looking at my archives, I’ve never talked about House Wrens.  I saw a male and a female.  They look the same, but I’m assuming that dynamic because the presumed female watched the male sing.  This was the female.  From the front she looks like any little brown bird (lbb), but from the back you can see her stripes.

This is the male.

As usual, I’m a sucker for a bird that sings his heart out.

They don’t look very different from Marsh Wrens.  I know these were House Wrens because the male was preparing a nest in a cavity of the tree.

We saw House Wrens in Costa Rica too.  The owner’s son told us a story about how there was a hornet’s nest in the eave of the main  house that he was getting worried about.  The House Wren started eating all the larvae out of the nest until it failed.

Great photos – he was really modeling for you! I think my favorite is the one where you caught him in full face on song. You’re going to have to visit that tree in the future….babies!!!

I should really try. I bet wren babies are extra cute.
