Cows

The land around Patagonia Lake has grazing cows. They’re very pretty cows even if they do seem out of place in such beautiful scenery.   Apparently the cow below is a very common type of cow. But all I could see is a cow with a Scream mask on. I guess this is what happens [...]

The Birds of Salt Lake City, UT

You have to love a town that appreciates birds.  You can find statues of birds while walking around. There are gull statues at the subway stops.  I’m guessing this ties into the California gull being the state bird, on account of the gulls rescuing the Mormons from a plague of grasshoppers.  Or maybe they just [...]

Wallet

Have I mentioned that I’m cheap?  I’m cheap; it’s a problem.  And more specifically, I don’t like to buy things.  So when I decided that I needed a new wallet, it was probably five years too late.  Every time I take out my wallet the cards fly everywhere.  Plus the edges are completely ragged.  So [...]

Mule Deer in Heber City, UT

It didn’t take long for snow to cover the mountains.  This picture was taken on November 7, 2010, but it could have easily been taken weeks ago. Jon and I drove down a road birding a few weeks ago in the hopes of finding gulls near a trash dump when we saw Mule Deers. They [...]

The poison oak in the back has also turned a lovely [...]

Yes, I know that they’re eating my garden.  But they’re so cute!  They love to hang out on the composter, especially after I’ve watered the garden and the water is dripping off the plastic. [...]

Utah

In general, living in Utah is like living in any other town.  Sure the people are friendlier than when I lived in California and New England, but I suspect people are generally friendlier in these middle states.  The only real way that you notice that it’s different here is that most things shut down on [...]
